Following on from the very successful abstracting workshops which Lupe Cunha ran as part of her presence in the HVAF Open Studios in September. Now, just before Christmas she is introducing again another two four hour sessions at her home studio where students are encouraged under her guidance to further abstract from the landscape. Lupe recommends that you bring some prior work or sketches which you would like to make into an abstract piece. Thinking in terms of colour and shape and using brushes, palette knives and pens as mark-making tools she will encourage you to give greater freedom of expression through various techniques she will illustrate to simplify and loosen your previous work into a more abstract result.

Techniques will be spread over two-day workshops using of four different techniques to abstract the landscape projected for that purpose. From stylization of forms, to working from detail, to linear shifts, to textural effects and colour inversions, this workshop will help you find your preferred way of abstracting what you see before you and then develop this into one or two complete paintings supported with step by step guidance.
