Photography

Lupe Cunha began her photography exploring this as Fine Art while undertaking her Foundation Studies in Chicago, Illinois. Water has always been an important element in her work and at this time she explored the strange ice formations which waves in winter produces on the edge of Lake Michigan..

In Brazil, she moved into Photo-journalism and worked for three years as photographer at the Latin American Daily Post and Brazil Herald undertaking many photo-features on a range of aspects of Brazilian life, culture, customs and events. Her coverage was as wide ranging as Carnaval and the City Morgue. Here in the UK she then put together a panel of her journalistic work and achieved a Licentiateship from the Royal Photographic Society followed shortly afterwards with her Associateship in 1986. A few years later she achieved her Licentiateship of the British Institute of Professional Photographers in Portraiture and was then also accepted by the Association of Photographers with her portfolio of published work. She continued as a practicing member of the AoP (Category C/B) until 2005 when she moved into teaching photography in FE and HE.

In the UK, Lupe expanded her work into the world of editorial photography for which she became best known. Supplying work to most of the national magazines from Woman’s Journal, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan, She, Bella and Best to the more specialized Mother&Baby and Nursing&Medical magazines.

With her studio first in Winshmore Hill and then in Southgate, North London, she began undertaking large illustration projects for publishers such Longman Pearson, Routledge, Heinnemans, OUP as well as magazines publishers like Macmillan and Scholastics. During this studio time she also began to undertake portraits for individuals which she continued to develop with her specialist studio for women until she closed her studio in 2000 to dedicate herself to her fine art photography. Her work continues to appear in publications both here and abroad and Lupe Cunha is represented by Agents both here and abroad.
